Red Squirrel

The red squirrel is one of the iconic species that has a close association with the Scottish Highlands.  Based on images from social media you might think that they spend their life sitting on tree stumps feeding on hazel nuts but this is far from the truth. They prefer to spend as little time on the ground as possible and can be seen scurrying up and down trees in search of food.

Capturing squirrels in their natural habitat is my aim as I try to avoid creating too many “props” as more often than not they will look fake and the danger is in trying to improve on nature you end up damaging it beyond repair.  This reminds me of a quote from Andre Gide who said “Art is a collaboration between God and the artist, and the less the artist does the better.”
